May 21, 2015 – Nineteen members of the United Flying Octogenarians, representing Indiana, Illinois, and Ohio, gathered in Columbus, IN on Thursday, May 21, 2015 for their annual Spring meeting. The event began at the airport with a warm welcome to both those who flew in and those who arrived by auto. Hangar 5 restaurant staff had set up long tables for the group, and soon they were filled with hungry and exuberant senior pilots, all eager to share their aviation stories with their comrades.
Following lunch, the group visited the nearby Atterbury-Bakalar Air Museum to view the new exhibits and hold a short business meeting where new members were introduced and given an opportunity to tell a bit about themselves. Next, they proceeded to the restored and historic old Chapel which has been preserved from the WWII era when the airport was a U.S. Air Force base. Nancy Warren, Indiana UFO representative who hosted the event had a large cake decorated with the UFO logo waiting to be cut and enjoyed, accompanied by ice cream, tea and coffee.
